Travelling to Berlin

The best way for you to get to Berlin – by car, by train, by coach: you can get to Berlin easily and comfortably.

The airports and railway stations also have great connections to your destination. With its own railroad station below Terminal 1, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is directly connected to the rail network. Change directly to train or S-Bahn. Alternatively, you can use various car-sharing services throughout the city. You can also get to the capital quickly and safely from German ports by train or car

If you’re driving a car or a coach, please note: downtown Berlin is an environmental zone. This means you need to get your vehicle a sticker indicating its emissions rating.

By plane

As the most modern international hub in Europe, the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BES) connects the capital to all central transport corridors in Europe

As the gateway to the world, BER Airport is very well connected to the road and rail network. With its own railway station beneath Terminal 1 (Level U2), BER is directly connected to suburban and regional trains. This means that you can not only get from the airport to the city centre quickly, but also conveniently reach the area surrounding Berlin with regional and long-distance trains from the Flughafen BER - Terminal 1-2 station.

  • The Airport Express takes you to Berlin Central Station in 30 minutes.
  • Two new lines under the name PlusBus Airport-Region also run every hour during the week from Königs Wusterhausen via Wildau, Miersdorf and Schulzendorf to BER Airport. Express buses also run from the Rudow underground station.
  • The airport shuttle BER1 of BEX Charter brings you every 60 minutes to the southwest of the city to the city hall of Steglitz. A continuation of the express bus line to the station Zoologischer Garten is requested.
  • From Potsdam, the regional train line 22 runs with a travel time of just under one hour.
  • To reach the city centre, take the S-Bahn lines S 9 and S 45, which leave every 20 minutes. These also stop at the Terminal 5 station.

If you are arriving at Terminal 1-2 by regional or long-distance train, please change to the S-Bahn and travel two stops to Terminal 5.

Public transport within Berlin

Berlin uses a zone system. Please find info on fares, timetables and the zones in Berlin's public transport area. The new Berlin Brandenburg Airport BER is directly connected to the public transport network. You can take the S9 and S45 trains from Alexanderplatz or Südkreuz to Terminal 1-2 without changing trains.
