Abstract Guidelines

I. General Information for Authors

The hosts of the 15th IAA Symposium on Small Satellites in Earth System Observation 2025 (SSEO15) invite authors to
submit abstracts for presentation at the SSEO15. The SSEO 15 will take place from May 4-8, 2025 in Berlin, Germany.

The symposium will provide a forum for scientists, engineers, and managers to exchange information about planned
and on-going programs and missions, and present new ideas, covering small satellite mission objectives as well as
technology and management aspects for dedicated satellites for Earth and Moon observation.

The symposium will consist of

  • Lectures by invited speakers
  • Contributed papers selected from abstracts received in response to the call for papers
  • Poster sessions
  • Panel discussions
  • Workshops

and will include a technical exhibition to showcase hardware and posters.

II. Registration to the conference is a 2-stage process:

1. Abstract Submission
to submit an abstract every author has to pre-register to the SSEO15. Please your submit abstract
via the Abstract Submission on the SSEO15 website
Every author will receive a confirmation email that the abstract has been received. 


2. Registration

Later, after receiving an acceptance notification the regular registration is obligatory and implies payment of the registration fee.
Therefore, with the acceptance notification, a link to finalize registration and payment will be provided. 

Registration will open for authors:        MARCH 3, 2025
Registration close for all:                       APRIL 21, 2025

IV. Student Competition

If you are a Bachelor or Master student, you can submit your abstract for the student competition track. This is a track covering all symposium topics but dedicated specifically for students. The best submissions will be invited for an oral or poster presentation and the best 3 will be awarded with prizes.

If you want to submit your abstract for the student competition, you are kindly asked to upload your abstract together with your certificate of enrollment here:

The deadline for submitting your abstract for the Student Competition is the 15th of February. Submissions after this deadline will not be accepted.

Note: If you are a student and you want your abstract to be considered for a regular track, you must submit your abstract via the abstract submission tool by February 15th 2025!

Please follow the guidelines for abstract submission below and use the provided abstract template. If possible, please submit your abstract as well as your certificate of enrollment in one pdf file (otherwise upload 2 files). Note that once submitted your abstract cannot be modified.

V. Preparing an abstract

Please submit the abstract via the webpage SSEO15 website before the submission deadline on February 15, 2025.

Students are invited to submit their abstracts until February 15, 2025. Please note that the student abstract can
only be submitted together with a valid student certificate of enrollment for a Bachelor or Master (NO PHD).
PhD students are invited to submit their papers for the regular tracks.

Remarks on the abstract:

  • All abstracts for SSEO15 should address one of the SSEO15 topics
  • Choose the topic category that refers to the main subject of the abstract
  • Please use the provided template.

General remarks:

  • We highly recommend completing your submission early to avoid trouble due to high server traffic close to the deadline.
  • Submissions via Email or ax are not accepted.
  • late submissions will not be accepted.
  • All abstracts and full papers must be submitted in English.
  • Given the competitiveness of our past events, we encourage authors to focus on quality and thorough preparation
  • Accepted contributions are expected to be presented on-site at the venue in Berlin, Germany.

VI. Review, Notification, Program Placement and Proceedings

Your abstract will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Depending on review of the abstract and its content,
the chairs of SSEO15 may allocate it to a poster session or an oral presentation session.However, you can indicate
your preference when submitting your abstract.

The contact author will be notified of abstract acceptance by email no later than February 28, 2025.

The selection of papers will be made by the SSEO15 chair and reviewers on the following criteria:

    • General interest of the subject
    • Relevance to the subjects covered by the conference
    • Originality of the material presented
    • Clarity of the abstract

 

VII. ACCESS to the SSEO15 abstracts 

Starting at the first day of SSEO15 (May 5, 2025) the abstracts (PDF) will be published on the sub-page named "Abstracts"
of the SSEO15 website. Only as a participant of the SSEO15 you will have access to all abstracts.


Please note:
For the oral presentation itself: There will be no provision of your presentation/ contribution of the SSEO15
by the German Aerospace Center (DLR e. V.), host of SSEO15 for publication on the conference website SSEO15.

There will be also no provision of the booklet of SSEO15 abstracts by Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V., German Space Agency at DLR e.V, Department of Robotics, Digitalisation and AI I, Königswinterer Straße 522-524, 53227 Bonn (Host of the SSEO15) for publication to other public portals and information channels of German Aerospace Center/ German Space Agency at DLR or other external websites and tools.

The German Space Agency at DLR e. V., as host of SSEO15 is therefore not responsible for publishing the full papers/proceedings of SSEO15 and any other publication to other public portals or other external websites and tools.


VIII. Full paper submission

Final papers for the symposium proceedings are limited to eight pages, including tables and illustrations and must written with the full paper template.

Submitting a full paper is mandatory for all participants that attend the SSEO15 and whose abstract was accepted for either oral or poster presentation.

Please upload your paper only once. The Webite does not display a confirmation message.
The TU Berlin is responsible for the full paper submission process and the protection of the personal data on this cloud. Please inform yourself about the data privacy here.

The final papers will not be published on the sub-page named "Abstracts" of the SSEO15 website.

The German Space Agency at DLR e. V., as host of SSEO15 is therefore not responsible for publishing the final papers/proceedings of SSEO15 and any other publication to other public portals or other external websites and tools.
